Drug Leads

Thuris is developing neuroprotective compounds to address select Orphan and niche indications.

The Company intends to aggressively forward lead compounds into toxicology and clinical trials.

The first lead involves an ischemia-related brain disorder that shares certain characteristics with stroke. Thuris scientists have used a small molecule inhibitor to almost completely block the disorder in stringent animal trials. The characteristics of the disorder make for a potentially far easier clinical trial program than seen in stroke programs to date. A successful drug might be administered across a wide range of ischemic brain diseases.

The second lead is designed to address the massive chemotherapy market, in which side-effects of treatment are a barrier to proper dosing and patient compliance. Thuris scientists have targeted a protein they believe is responsible for the peripheral neuropathy that afflicts many chemotherapy patients. A successful drug in this space might be administered concomitantly with chemotherapy agents, inhibit the neuropathy induced by such treatments, and allow higher dosing regimes.

The Thuris pipeline consists of compounds that have been shown, respectively, to block primary signs of Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and brain inflammation.
