EEG technicians are responsible for the taking of EEG readings.
The EEG reading is a record of brain activity and is used for
the following purposes:
» To help diagnose conditions involving neurodegeneration.
» For research in the neurological, psychological or psychiatric fields.
EEG technicians must set the patients' minds at ease and record details such as age,
head injuries, diseases, and present symptoms.
The clinical EEG examination takes approximately 30 minutes and
techniques which activate the brain, such as stimulating the
brain with a bright flickering light or deep breathing for
three minutes, are usually included.
The EEG record is then prepared for analysis and interpretation.
EEG technicians are also responsible for the classification and
filing of these reports, arranging appointments, ordering supplies
and the maintenance of the equipment and laboratory.
EEG technicians normally work regular hours, based on patient availability,
but occasionally, technicians may be expected to work overtime.
